Hummingbird

Wild flower, wild flower

The well has went dry

The hummingbird is thirsty

From painting the sky

He lives in the orange tree

His home’s out of sight

I watch for that hummingbird

At the early twilight

He dances from the branches

And swings to the wire

Swoops toward the ground

Then even flies higher

Wild flower, wild flower

The well has went dry

The hummingbird is thirsty

And his song is a cry

“you the bird’s keeper”

Wild flower asked of me

Do you grow in the garden

And wish to be free

Wild flower, wild flower

Your words do mean much

Your scent does surround me

In the air that you touch

I am the rich soil

Where lavender sprouts

The Cats Claw blooms

And a sunflower shouts

Wild flower, wild flower

Wave in the breeze

I wish for the cactus

To see what I see

A hummingbird is drinking

From a fresh fountain spray

For tomorrow he must do

Design for me a new day

  1. Oh, yes! You’ve captured exactly what I love about hummingbirds. Aren’t they the most mysterious little birds? I used to think they were faeries! So delicate and shy. Wonderful work, Cuz.
